Whittier comic book store hosts artists' showing Whittier Daily News

WHITTIER - Fans of comics, dash and computer gaming have a chance to meet those who create those works at a free show hosted by an Uptown business.

GEEKS Comics, 6747 Greenleaf Ave., will publicize about 20 local artists and creators from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday as they display and sell their drudgery.

For GEEKS owner Sal Felix, the idea for the show started as a joke.

"Five years ago we thought how funny it would be to have a GEEKS-con, a restricted version of comic-con," he said. "Now it's a reality."

Comic-con usually refers to the international program hosted annually in San Diego showcasing comic books, study fiction and fantasy, film and television and more genres of gaming and animation.

GEEKS-con's featured artists will do sprung sketches and sell their books and artworks.

Felix and artists Javier Hernandez, 44, of Whittier, and Raul Aguirre, 37, of South Door, hope to show that not all comics and animation have to come from giant studios or corporations.
