Critics who cry that female actresses are forced to disrobe far more often than their male counterparts have clearly never seen in an episode of HBO’s “Fast Blood.” The vampire series, which began its third season tonight, managed to find multiple ways — some more casuistic than others — of having its four leading men appear sans shirts (and pants).

In one dream sequence, clearly designed to titillate, vampire Bill (Stephen Moyer) and shapeshifter Sam (Sam Trammell) are even shirtless together, and uttering cheeseball lines like “I perceive the water in Arkansas is very… hard,” while walking toward the shower.

Vampires? Nudity? Campy meeting? Welcome back, “True Blood”! We’ve missed you.

Just like the period before, season three’s premiere episode — titled “Bad Blood” — picks up minutes after the events of last summer’s finale . Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) is agitated that her vampire boyfriend Bill — whose proposal she’s decided to accept — has been kidnapped, and immediately starts questioning all of her friends and acquaintances as to his whereabouts. She first interrogates Eric (Alexander Skarsgard), whom she finds in the middle of having his way with his bar’s newest dancer, but the Fangtasia owner has no clue where Bill is. He does, however, tell Sookie he’s solicitous her boyfriend’s sexual stamina may be “not up to snuff” and that he still wants what is Bill’s — namely Sookie. The bar virgo intacta next seeks out her friend Tara (Rutina Wesley), only to be attacked by her grieving pal, who’s upset with Sookie for serving her late boyfriend Eggs realize he killed a slew of people under the influence of last season’s villain, the maenad Maryann. Sookie when all is said gets most information from Bill’s “ward” Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll), who uses her vampire-y quick-wittedness to help Sookie track Bill’s car down.
