Movies News for Wolverine II, Godzilla and More

At least one charitable thing about covering movie news is that you’re never at a loss for material. Almost every hour, it seems that an actor gets cast, a dim gets the green light, or a project totally falls apart. This week is no exception, as there’s been plenty of upward within the industry. But instead of having to wade through pages of information for only a few items of interest, now all you have to do is read the following article. It’s got enough silent picture news to satisfy even the most hardcore fan, and if you see something that looks especially interesting, don’t be afraid to talk about it in the “Comments” measure out.
Diaries are for Closers - David Mamet, the man behind Glengarry GlenRoss and other masterpieces of dialogue, is gearing up to write a screenplay based on the pre-eminent diary of Anne Frank. I’m hoping Alec Baldwin will get a chance to do his “brass balls” goods again.
Huston Joins Twilight Cast - Jack Huston has been cast as vampire Royce King II in the third Crepuscle film, entitled The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. His character lived through the Great Depression, so he should know wealth about suffering and other old-timey things.
Redbox and Lionsgate Agreement - Redbox, the latest movie rental fad which allows viewers to get films from a kiosk for only $1, has reached a bargain with Lionsgate to get movies at the same time as other major retailers. The studio can opt out of the deal in 2011, otherwise it will run until 2014.
Maggie Q Needs a Preacher - Skinny-yet-sexy Maggie Q, best known from Live Free or Die Hard and Mission: Impossible III, will be starring alongside Paul Bettany and Cam Gigandet in Divine, a horror western directed by Scott Stewart. The film takes place in a world where mankind and vampires are at war, and a warrior churchman (Bettany) teams with a sheriff (Gigandet) to rescue a young girl from bloodsuckers. Maggie Q will play a vampire-arduous priestess who accompanies them on their travels and most likely dies somewhere before the end credits (just a hunch on my part).
